Berwick, ME (population 8,000), is seeking an experienced, professional community leader to serve as its next Town Manager. Berwick is situated on the Salmon Falls River, a tributary of the Piscataqua River, which is the border between Berwick and the City of Somersworth, NH. The town is served by state routes 9 and 236. Berwick is an extremely desirable destination for the right Town Manager candidate. Portland is an hour away, while Boston is less than an hour and a half. The Maine and NH seacoasts are just a short drive. With a traditional Town Meeting form of government, the Town Manager is the CAO/CEO and reports to a five member Board of Selectmen. The annual Town operating Budget is $8M, excluding schools. The Town employs 40 FT and approximately 20 PT and seasonal staff. The successful candidate will have strong experience in local government operations, labor relations, and community based problem solving. Strong interpersonal, listening, written, and verbal skills required. Experience in managing large scale, downtown redevelopment projects is desirable. BA/BS required/Masters preferred. Minimum seven years progressive municipal management and leadership experience desired. Salary range to $120K; starting salary commensurate with qualifications.
