Planning & Community Development
MRI’s experience as a community planning consultant to towns and villages throughout New Hampshire and New England gives us the unique ability to create innovative community based planning solutions. Our planning staff are experienced municipal and regional planners with extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. We use all available technology to increase communication while also making the preparation of materials less expensive and easier to distribute. We are also able to offer interim staffing on an as needed basis.
MRI’s team is bringing together planning, sustainable design, and economic development in a practice we describe as creative community development. We have been working on creative community development initiatives since 1997.
MRI has works closely with communities focusing on integrating the planning and design components with economic development initiatives. These efforts put a strong emphasis on the village core,"walkability," traffic calming and reconnecting the pedestrian to community business facilities and activities. We have a accomplished this through focused engagement of community leaders, citizen groups, neighborhood organizations and schools. As we build community engagement participation we enable the community to reach out and embrace its history while reenergizing a vision for the future. This process of reengaging the community and energizing their collective strength allows a community to sustain businesses, grow the economy, and enhance infrastructure.
Master Plan / Land Use Ordinance
Over the past decade MRI has assisted communities in all facets of municipal planning. This has included developments of master plans, land use ordinances, subdivision and site plan review regulations, capital improvement plans, and interim staffing as community planner and zoning administration services. MRI has a long tradition of working closely with communities to achieve their desired results for land use planning regulations and implementation. Our experience and dedication to community and sustainable development is the philosophy we employ as we work with communities. This enables us to develop and/ or implement plans and regulations that meet state, local requirements and respond to the unique nature of each community and support their vision of the future. Our exclusive integration of experienced staff in all aspects of municipal government , includes municipal management, code enforcement, geographic information systems, and financial systems allows MRI to not simply develop a quality plan, but to assist the community by integrating their planning documents into the daily functions of the municipality.
MRI understands the strain and pressure on communities to review complex land development proposals in a complete and consistent fashion. Often, communities are struggling to understand where the regulations, ordinances, RSA, and good development meet and what are realistic options and decisions the board can make to assure the development is in compliance with the town and state laws.
MRI has the expertise and capacity to work with communities to provide on-call site plan review and subdivision review evaluation. We will evaluate the proposals for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This will be captured in a succinct report which will provide the board with a clear evaluation of the proposal, decisions the board must make, and recommendations to consider.
In addition, NH RSA 676:4,I,g allows for the board to impose an administrative fee upon the applicant to cover these costs.
In today’s environment, it is critical for a community to understand the economic and fiscal impacts of development in the community. This is import in the development of long range plans and in the comprehensive evaluation of development proposals. MRI has the capacity, skills, and experience to create a build-out analysis, fiscal impact study of development on town services, and cost of community services studies.
These studies are important in providing the basic information in a reasonable format to enable a community to understand and make the best possible planning decisions regarding development proposals and the creation and adoption of new municipal regulations.
MRI will work closely with your community to develop the study you need and implement it to assure the community receives the information necessary to make educated and decisions about the future of the community.
